DR. CLIFFORD ARNOLD - Computational Physicist
Dr. Arnold, owner of Sage Physics & Engineering,
is a design engineer and computational physicist.
During the past 18 years Dr. Arnold has conducted design studies and computational
investigations modeling the dynamics of fluids for a wide variety of industrial applications,
including the automobile industry, biomedical devices, environmental controls, aerospace,
chemical industry, painting, furnaces, racing cars, among others. Dr. Arnold has experience with over a dozen
commercial computational fluid dynamics (CFD) packages. He has extensive experience with four
CFD software systems, and developed a complete CFD package of his own from first principles (Ph.D.
Thesis in Supersonic Flows, Univ. of Michigan, 1985).
Dr. Arnold has taught CFD courses to over 500 people across the country. He is recognized
nationally as an expert both in fluid dynamics consulting and in transferring CFD technology
to Fortune 500 companies. He has been a contributing member of the National Research Council
Committee on Supercomputer Performance and Development, and a Max Plank Fellow. Dr. Arnold's
Ph.D. is from the University of Michigan. He has been an Adjunct Instructor at the University of St.
Thomas, Department of Mathematics, in St. Paul, Mn while living in St. Paul.
Dr. Arnold has sponsored several student interns during the summer months. One of these interns
was selected as an Intel Science Talent Search Semi-Finalist with her summer project on the
Acoustics of Concert Halls. Another did a significant research project on
water pump optimization.
Dr. Arnold lives near Charlottesville, VA with his wife Kate Tamarkin.
