Inlet B

A waterpump for a 7L deisel engine application has inspired this study.  The baseline design fits between the gear cover on the front of the engine and the radiator fan, a rather narrow space.

For this case, we double the thickness of the inlet housing and increase the fillet radius from the inlet housing to the impeller annulus.

The point of this case is to see what performace gains can be made by relaxing the space restriction on the inlet. The impeller, volute, and outlet duct portions of this case are identical to the Baseline case.

  • As before, the impeller diameter is 9.4 cm (3.7 in),the blades are 1.2 cm (0.5 in) tall, and the volute is 1.9 cm (.75 in) deep.
