Concert Hall Acoustics
Ted Mann, University of Minnesota

This hall, a performance venue for the University of Minnesota’s School of Music among others, was built in 1990. Detailed specifications and floor plan for the hall can be found at http://www.music.umn.edu/tedmann/index.htm. Our version of the hall’s configuration is shown as we modeled it.
One study of the acoustics of the hall analyzed the effect
of carpeting the aisles or leaving the concrete surface uncovered (it’s current
configuration). The results of this
study can be found at Carpeted
vs. Concrete Aisles.
Disclaimer: These results are based on models of the Ted Mann Concert Hall geometry. Results have not been carefully validated with impulse decay times within the hall. In order to more accurately reproduce the absolute results of this hall, the material properties of the hall’s surfaces must be assessed and assigned more carefully than they were. Therefore the results are only illustrative. They are useful for comparison purposes of one case to another (e.g. aisles with and without carpet). We expect that the decay times and reverberation times in these results are not necessarily accurat.
