Concert Hall Acoustics

Simple Hall

This hall, a simple rectangular hall with a large stage area is used for several tests of specific features. In this case the hall geometry is simplistic by design. We are curious about the impact of a proscenium, the impact of different absorbing qualities of the aisles, and the impact of different absorbing qualities of the walls and ceiling.

We start by creating an extreme set of material properties for the walls and ceiling. We want to hear what a violin sounds like when the material properties absorb some frequencies preferencially over others:

Case 1: Frequencies below 500 Hz are absorbed (613 kBytes wav file)

Case 2: Frequencies from 500 Hz-2000 Hz are absorbed (613 kBytes wave file)

Case 3: Frequencies above 4000 Hz are absorbed (613 kBytes wav file)
